Faculty Positions in Quantum Science and Technology
The College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan invite applications for full-time tenure-track or tenured positions in quantum science and technology to be filled, starting August 25, 2025. As part of an initiative in quantum science and technology at the University the Michigan Quantum Research Institute is being formed and 8 new faculty will be hired. These faculty can be rostered in the following departments (jointly if appropriate): LSA/Physics, COE/Electrical and Computer Engineering, LSA/Math, COE/Computer Science and Engineering, LSA/Chemistry, COE/Materials Science and Engineering, depending on the best fit for the applicant. The appointment is based on a 9-month academic year.
Successful candidates will focus on foundational research and development for advanced quantum technologies exploiting entanglement and coherent superposition. We are particularly interested in people leading in transformative research and disruptive technologies, engaging and leveraging the University’s existing strengths in quantum-light information science and technology, including advanced spectroscopy, quantum phenomena in semiconductors, Rydberg atoms, two-dimensional quantum materials, quantum integration, quantum dynamics and computation, quantum control, quantum field theories, quantum communications, networks, electrodynamics, microwave technologies, and algorithms, or systems software for quantum-information processing. We invite diverse candidates across all these areas to apply.
The University of Michigan is one of the world’s leading research universities, with $1.86B in research expenditures (FY2023). It is ranked the #2 public research university by the National Science Foundation, and 3rd best U.S. public university by US News and World Report (2024). Our departments pride themselves on the mentoring of junior faculty towards a successful career. Ann Arbor is highly rated as a family friendly best-place-to-live.
